Book One (2nd Ed) teaches reading and Spelling from a phonetic view point. This book contains 35 lessons which focus on two areas: blending sounds together to read words in a systematic way, and learning the spelling rules of the English language, again through a phonic approach. 

Lesson One begins with only five sounds and the word “the”.  The teaching relies on dictating both the words and sentences and using an alphabet set or alphabet cards, which can be made (clue cards).  This is explained in the “Introduction”.

Book Two (2nd Ed) continues the structured programme with only a small amount of letter sounds (phonemes) and spelling rules such as, "w" makes /a/ say /o/ as in "was" and digraph /ar/ say /or/ as in "war". There are 33 lessons in this book.

Book Three (2nd Ed) completes the set with more complex rules such as soft "g" when followed by "e", "i" and "y" says /j/ as in "gentle", "giant" and "gypsy". This book contains 36 lessons which clarify many English spelling and grammar rules.
